I was a little impressed with Lady Gaga on SNL over the weekend. Then I wake up this morning to see Amazon selling her new album, ‘Born This Way,’ a day before its official release for only 99 cents.
I’m a little critical of most pop, but this album is interesting to me. Go get it.
Vashti McCollum sued. The case exploded in the newspapers. People in Champaign were shocked to find a family of atheists living amongst them. A member of the Illinois Legislature introduced legislation to fire any state employee who professed to be an atheist.
Ugh, this makes me so mad. But this story does have a happy ending. Sad thing is, I know some Christians who still think similarly about atheists and people of other religions. When I was a Christian, the small-mindedness of some Christians around me was one of the factors that made me question the faith.
I know better than to judge an entire group by the actions of a few. I’m not saying that Christians or Christianity as a whole is bad or wrong, but I’ve found that many people who aren’t Christian do see Christians as being very judgemental.
I’ve been skydiving before, but was so freaked out that I forgot to remember the experience. And I didn’t jump from anywhere near this high. Look at that view!

I can’t help but blog about music. I’ve had two different music blogs in the past. I loved writing about and sharing the music I’m into, but felt bad when I fell behind on updating regularly.
Maybe the way I’m using Posterous at the moment is perfect for me: No set schedule, no defined content or direction; just whatever I want to post, whenever I antw to post it. If I miss a week, no problem. If a few weeks ago I posted a video for a documentary photographer, , today I’m talking about music, and tomorrow I share some random quote about kittens that makes me smile, then no problem.
This is absolutely brilliant. A Jimmy Hendriz portrait made of 5,000 used guitar picks, made by UK artist Ed Chapman

This is so awesome.
I came across Wikipedia’s Terminal Event Management Policy today. Feels a bit like a leftover April Fool’s gag, except extremely well thought out. This Wikipedia entry describes the protocol for saving its entire database to non-electronic mediums in case some catastrophe occurs and human life is partially or completely extinguished. It even descries a method for converting its entire encyclopedia into for radio transmission across the galaxy.
While the light of humanity may flicker and die, we go gently into this dark night, comforted in the knowledge that someday Wikipedia shall take its rightful place as part of a consensus-built Galactic Encyclopedia, editable by all sentient beings.
This is cool little bag. I’ve been meaning to get something like this to keep just a body and a lens or two in for when I go out to do some street work. Check out a review of it at DPS.
Great interview of a successful celeb photographer who has photographed many notable people. It’s always interesting hearing how some of the top people in the field of photography think.
Keatley talks a bit about photographing personalities that tend to be polarizing with the public. He says that most photographers will photograph a person whether they agree what they stand for or not. For example, just because he’s photographed Sarah Palin doesn’t mean he supports her views.
Not sure if I like or agree with Keatley’s train of thought here. A documentary photographer will capture the good and the bad, and the better photographers are able to capture these subjects in a way that can influence the viewer’s perception of that subject. But a celebrity photographer doesn’t have the luxury of picturing his subjects in a negative way — his job it to always make his subjects look good.
I’m not sure if I could be a part of bettering someone’s public image if I disagree with what they stand for.

Check out a short video of documentary photographer Chris Jordan talking about how plastic waste is killing baby albatross birds in the Pacific Islands. This is a sad story that everyone should be aware of.
